The WHO Pressures Members to Sign Pandemic Treaty
Critics say that the WHO may be running afoul of its procedures to get pandemic treaty documents signed.
As the World Health Organization (WHO) approaches the deadline for its 194 member countries to agree on new protocols that would expand its powers during pandemics, discussions have intensified, with efforts to encourage member states to agree to the proposals.
This push comes amidst some resistance and skepticism about the impact such agreements could have on national sovereignty.
Former U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown, serving as a WHO Ambassador, praised a collaborative effort by over 100 global leaders to support member nations' endorsement of the agreements.
This group included ex-national Presidents, Prime Ministers, a former U.N. General Secretary, and Nobel Laureates. They called for prompt action to finalize a Pandemic Accord, aiming to enhance global preparedness and response for future health crises under the WHO's governance.
